Ingredients

  • 2 slices sourdough bread Choose thick slices for optimal crunch and flavor.
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese Shredded for easy melting and maximum gooeyness.
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple Thinly sliced to add a refreshing tartness.
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries For a touch of sweetness and chewy texture.
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Essential for achieving the perfect golden crust.

Method

  1. Begin by thinly slicing the Granny Smith apple. Gather all the other ingredients so they are easily accessible during cooking.
  2. Spread butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. This will ensure a beautifully golden exterior when grilled.
  3. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer half of the shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Then add the apple slices, followed by the dried cranberries, before topping it off with the remaining cheese.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top, ensuring the buttered side faces outwards. This will create a crispy outer layer once grilled.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and grill your sandwich for about 3-5 minutes until it’s golden brown on one side. Carefully flip it over and continue grilling for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are crispy and the cheese has melted.
  6. Once grilled to perfection, remove from heat and let it cool slightly before slicing diagonally. Serve warm to fully enjoy this sweet and savory delight!
