Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp butter Adds richness and flavor to the dough.
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar Essential for a sweet and creamy icing.
  • 0.25 cups cream cheese Gives the icing a tangy twist and smooth texture.
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla Enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 0.125 tsp salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavor.
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast Necessary for leavening the dough.
  • 1 cup warm milk Activates yeast and helps create soft dough.
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar Sweetens the dough and helps with browning.
  • 0.333 cups softened butter Adds moisture to the dough base.
  • 1 tsp salt For flavor enhancement.
  • 4 cups flour The main ingredient that forms the dough's base.
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar Creates a caramel-like filling for extra sweetness.
  • 3 tbsp cinnamon The star spice that gives cinnamon rolls their beloved flavor.
  • 0.333 cups butter, softened Used in the filling for richness.

Method

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: Start by dissolving the yeast in warm milk in a large bowl, stirring gently until combined.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients and Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, combine sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and flour; mix well before adding the milk/yeast mixture into this bowl.
  3. Knead and Let Rise: If using a stand mixer, utilize the dough hook to mix until incorporated; then place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll Out Dough and Prepare Filling: Roll out your risen dough on a silicon mat or floured surface; ensure it's about 16-18 inches long by 12 inches wide; next, mix butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon together to create your filling.
  5. Form Rolls and Second Rise: Spread the filling over your rolled-out dough evenly; roll it up tightly from one long edge onwards, cut into slices, place them in an oiled pan, cover with a damp towel, and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  6. Bake and Frost: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit; bake rolls for around 20 minutes or until golden brown; while they bake mix icing ingredients until fluffy—then drizzle generously over warm rolls once they're out of the oven!
