Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend for best flavor
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs can use plain or seasoned
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Mushroom Gravy
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced, any variety
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour for thickening
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for cooking
  • 1 tsp soy sauce optional for added flavor

Method

Prepare the Salisbury Steaks
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 oval patties.
Cook the Patties
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Make the Mushroom Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring to combine. Cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add beef broth and soy sauce, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
Combine and Serve
  1. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  2. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice, garnished with parsley if desired.
